The adventure begins

Before there was a campaign, there was a bedtime story — a father, his sons, and a dog named OdieBoy who dreamed of a Hall built on hope.

Written through Michael’s eyes, inspired by his sons, and shaped by the real families he’s met, Dream Big: The Hall of Champions carries the heartbeat of this mission.

Every chapter reminds us why this fight matters — not in statistics, but in faces, laughter, and love that endures.

It’s a story that asks one simple question: What if hope could build something real?

That dream is simple: that no child, no parent, and no family facing cancer will ever feel alone again.

Michael G. Velázquez is the founder of The Childhood Cancer Hall of Champions™ and author of Dream Big: The Hall of Champions

To Michael, this work is not simply an organization or a cause—it is a calling. It challenges him to grow as a man, as a father, and as a human being. It reflects his belief that life carries purpose, and that God places blessings in our hearts so we may use our time to serve something greater than ourselves.

At its heart, the Hall of Champions is deeply personal.

It was created for his sons, Michael Alfredo and Max Alexander, so that one day they will know their father’s life mattered. That despite flaws, fears, and failures, he chose to pursue a dream bigger than himself—one rooted in compassion, courage, and faith.

Born and raised in New York City, Michael G. Velázquez is a graduate of the University of Southern California, Pepperdine University, and Loyola Law School (Los Angeles, CA). For more than 26 years, he has been a dedicated advocate for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, working to ensure that kids facing cancer are never forgotten—and that their courage is honored, remembered, and celebrated.

This work is about legacy.

It is about faith in action.
And it is about recognizing the true champions among us.

At the heart of Dream Big is a simple but powerful idea: even the smallest voices can spark extraordinary hope.

Through the fictional journey of Michael, Max, and their beloved dog OdieBoy, readers experience:

  • The emotional realities faced by children and families living with cancer

  • The power of listening, showing up, and standing beside others in their hardest moments

  • The belief that advocacy doesn’t require perfection—only compassion

While the story is fictional, its message is deeply real: hope is stronger when it’s shared.

The book that’s more than a story.
